August 2, St. George’s, Grenada
We saw the Green Flash! We be real sailors now, boy-o.
The Green Flash, for you land lubbers, is the brief arc of green light that comes up over the horizon the second after the sun drops behind it. And yes, it is green.
We were out in the cockpit enjoying the sunset, when Moss announced that the conditions were perfect to see the green flash: clear sky, flat horizon.
So we stood there like morons (really cool morons), looking off the stern, eyes straining at the setting sun, refusing to blink, blinking is for losers, and KANKS! we saw it.
We saw the Green Flash. Yes, we be real sailors now.
