Clifton, Union Island, The Grenadines
We came to Union Island to check in to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, because this is where you do this when entering from the south. There is not much here. It’s a small island with a small airport and a marina that the cruising guide says has seen better days — a bit harsh, I feel.
Apart from the mooring tenders eager for you to take a ball, the fisherman and the water taxis, we haven’t been hassled too much.
There are a lot of other cruisers here; it is high season and the weekend forecast for the Tobago Cays (and its turtle sanctuary) is excellent. Unfortunately the weather is not that excellent today. It rained all last night and it is overcast now. And there is a gentle yet constant howl in the air.
No worries. It is nothing compared to the adolescent storms that blew hard in Tyrrel Bay. Besides, we are here to snorkel. And tomorrow we shall make the short hop to the Cays to swim with the turtles.
