Having guests visit really transforms life aboard. The new group dynamic takes a couple of days to find itself. There are new needs to be met, space is limited and quarters cramped. Guests want to help, but aren’t able to at first. It takes a few days to see how things work. And how things work is as unique as the live-aboard family and as individual as the boat.

We also prep our guests early and often: sailing is like camping. It is not cocktails on the Lido deck followed by shuffle board. You will get dirty. It will be damp. And depending on the sea state, you might not sleep all that well. But you will have fun and see places you never would have seen otherwise.

Luckily Kam and Rowan are both experienced Cedar guests and knew all this already (they learned last year).

And of course, once everyone finds their groove, and you sail around to different anchorages, play on beaches, visit old forts and explore rain forest waterfalls, then you have to say good-bye. And the boat always, always feels a bit empty afterwards.

You see, Kam? I didn’t even mention Rowan being sick all over the boat!
