The RORC Caribbean 600

The big sail on the right is not any closer than the others. It’s just bigger. A lot bigger.

Written 22 February, Falmouth Harbour, Antigua.

The big racing yachts with their fancy high tech black sails are getting ready, here in Antigua today. It’s the RORC Caribbean 600 and this is where it all starts.

I don’t know much about racing, but the show will be good. Guy, from Sanctuary, sailor extraordinaire and friend from last year, invited us to go out aboard his proper yacht (a catamaran) and watch the start of the race in style. Lots of fun!

We arrived in Antigua yesterday after a wonderfully easy sail from Des Haies, Guadeloupe. So far it looks very different here than the islands we have visited. This is an arid place, dry and rocky, like St. Maarten. And there is little green. It is also rather full of Brits, and I am regretting our limited baguette options already.
